Lionel Messi uncertain over Barcelona future

Barcelona’s talisman Lionel Messi has revealed that he does not know if his future lies at the club. Speculation is rife that the four-time Ballon d’Or winner could leave the club as early as next summer with suggestions that the club could let him go.
Although he had agreed a new deal with the club in May, there was a lot of behind the scenes noise made by his representatives, who had indicated that he could leave if the Barcelona management were not happy with him. The new deal reportedly saw his salary bumped to about 20 million euros a year. However, it has been said that there was unrest between the decision makers at Barcelona and Messi’s camp even after the deal had been signed, as the club were said to be not so impressed at him missing a major portion of the Catalans’ campaign last season due to a muscle injury.

“In football, things change all the time”

In an interview with Argentine newspaper Ole, he said, "At the moment, I am living in the present. I am thinking about having a great year and winning the trophies we want at Barcelona -- nothing else. Later, we will see. In football, things change all the time. Although I have always said I would like to stay there forever, sometimes everything does not always go as you want.”
When specifically asked if he felt as though he was being forced out, the diminutive Argentine suggested that there could be a change and that the instability in the board was an important factor.
He added, “I have said it many times," he said. "If it were for me, I would stay forever. But as I said before, everything does not always come out as you want -- even more in football, which changes so much and in which so many things can happen. It is complicated, even more given what is happening today at Barcelona."
He also spoke about Barcelona’s current campaign, specially addressing the consecutive defeats to Real Madrid and Celta Vigo. Messi said, “[Barca] is a very big club, and when you lose two games in a row problems begin to come, criticism comes out from all sides. A new coach came, with new ideas, and that takes time.
We have players who are more than good enough to do big things this year, and I am relaxed about it. This has just begun. There is still a long way to go in La Liga and the Champions League, so I am not worried."
Continuous speculation regarding his future is only going to put more pressure on the Barcelona board, and with clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea, Paris-Saint Germain, Bayern Munich and even Real Madrid linked with an interest in him, only time will tell what lies in store for the Golden Ball winner.
