BA Pass Hindi Movie Review

‘B.A. Pass’, the Hindi Neo noir film, produced and directed by Ajay Bahl, and starring Shilpa Shukla, Shadab Kamal, Rajesh Sharma, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya in lead roles has been released. The film, based on 2009 short story, ‘The Railway Aunty’ by Mohan Sikka. has opened to real good reviews.

Rediff sounds very impressed: “Weighing in at ninety minutes, the film is a riveting chunk of solid noir that stays compelling, grounded and hard to look away from. It is a morbidly fascinating tale — of sex and secrets and sinister chess-moves — and turns up a mostly impressive one. And yes, it’s wonderfully taut.”

IBN Live thinks its nicely done: “‘BA Pass’ exposes a cold, dark, and bleak universe that is in equal measure grotesque and intriguing. Bahl creates the right mood, but doesn’t leave you with much to think about when it’s all over. Still I’m going with three out of five. Not perfect, but nicely done.”

Deccan Chronicle says Indian sex cinema graduates with this one: “In sum, here’s a work which is permissive, graphic – even shocking (for the squeamish) – and rule-breaking. In fact, it recalls the manner is which B R Ishara had sniped away at hypocritical sexual mores back in the 1970s. This is adult cinema, neither cheap nor sniggering, but revelatory of reality behind closed doors. Try it.”
